The Oman International Group (OIG) inaugurated its first housing block in Ghala earlier this week under the auspices of H E Sayyid Hilal bin Hamed Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Labour at the Ministry of Manpower. The new three-storey building with 60 rooms was built in nine months by National Engineering and Construction Company. Fifty-nine rooms in the building will be used for accommodation and one as a prayer room. The facility can accommodate 540 workers and will allow the company to base its operations in the capital.
Tim Vallancey, deputy general manager, OIG, said, “Staff retention is one of the biggest problems. Having our own building will improve living and working conditions of the workers, which will translate into more productivity.”
OIG has plans to build two more block for its workers near the new block once power supply is enhanced by construction of a new electric substation. It also plans to construct an accommodation facility in Wadi Kabir. The group recently opened offices in Sohar and Salalah.
OIG specialises in cleaning, landscaping, catering and pest control services. It has also expanded its services to environmental health, design and installation of irrigation systems, catering, laundry and minor maintenance works.
